Do you ever browse Ebay looking for a bargain? I did and found a brand new Hero Arts stamp I didn't even know existed and it was a bargain too! As I always look out for versatile stamps, this fit the bill. It is called Super Solids Background S2057.
Now to my discovery which came about quite by accident. Look at the following two pictures.
The first one is a card project I made on a watercolor paper panel with distress inks (see 'One').
I didn't like it but as you know I never throw anything away, I put it to one side for a future grid project. Then I thought I could stamp over the top of it with this solid background stamp and get a different effect. So I inked it up with Old paper distress and stamped over the top but the result was not to be desired. I noticed I still had ink on my stamp so stamped it again onto a regular piece of beige cardstock (see 'Two'). And what did I notice - I had picked up the ink from the watercolor paper panel which gave me a nice effect. So instead of inking the paper, the paper inks your stamp!
This is a card I made using this technique and the above watercolor panel. I sprayed my stamp with water and let the paper ink my stamp up. Lovely to use all those small stamps that hardly get used, too. I think that this works best with a shadow stamp of some kind.
This is my second card with this stamp. No technique here. This is for the Birthday challenge over on the Hero Arts Blog.
What a fun discovery, Jacqueline, and I love the results! I have some similar stamps, though they won't fill a card like this one does, but I must get them out and have a play with them! Could this stamp be any more perfect for your grid cards?
ReplyDeletei never thought of using those stamps with watercolor - i have a lots of the shadow stamps from way back when. will have to give this a try - glad i kept them. and of course your cards are lovely. thanks for the inspiration.

ReplyDeletewhat a clever discovery, jacqueline! I have one or two of these grid backgrounds form years ago - I am going to pull them and try your technique, and your grid style - it has always captivated me :)
ReplyDeleteThese two cards look wonderful. I have this stamp for years. Work with it allot.I also use this stamp if I want to cut little squares from different papers. I stamp the image and than I can see where I can glue the squares on my card. I put ink around the square so if something went a little bit wrong with glueing you won't see.
ReplyDeleteI love the stamping squares you have made. Have a nice weekend Anneke.
